Smart Geothermal Energy and Innovative Hydrogeology

About us

We believe in the sensible and innovative use of science and technology, which characterizes our business. In the development of energy systems, water exploration, borehole logging and geophysics, we lean heavily on methods and technology derived from the oil industry.

In 2007, Fridtjov Ruden established Ruden AS. Already in the same year Ruden received the DnB NOR’s Innovation award of 1,3 million NOK for contributions to knowledge-based business development in Norway, in the sustainability category. In his career of 40 years, Fridtjov has been all over Africa, and other places in the world, to find and drill for fresh water.

Over the last 10 years, Ruden has continued building on this experience with the development of innovative solutions in applied geology and hydrogeology. The unique insight and experience, gathered from drilling and testing thousands of wells in Africa and other places worldwide, is now being applied on Ruden Energy’s innovative energy systems, national water projects in Ruden Water, and applied hydrogeology in Ruden Geo Services.

Ruden has over 40 years of experience with hydrogeology, both from projects in Norway and worldwide. Its roots lie in humanitarian water projects in Africa and South America. Currently their focus is on the exploration for large deep groundwater aquifers in passive margin areas and offshore, based on data and technologies from the oil and gas industry.

How 40 year old information from the oil industry secured water for 2 million people

More than 40 years ago, seismic profiles were shot in connection with oil exploration along the coast of Tanzania, partly funded by Norwegian assistance programs. No oil was discovered at that time, and the information was shelved. 40 years later we discovered the structures that made it possible to recommend drilling for water.
